Band Beat Music variety shows off this weekend BY TRUDY STEWART JOURNAL STAFF Some familiar musicians, such as Heartsfield, are back in town for shows this weekend at local music hotspots. Some new performers also are on the bill. Southern rock favorite Heartsfield comes back for a fifth time to the stage at Clark Place, 1009 Clark St. Show starts at 8 p.m. Friday; cover is $10.
Fronted by Perry Jordan, Heartsfield has been called "the Grateful Dead of the Midwest." The band toured throughout the 1970s, spreading its infectious brand of foot stompin' good-time country rock far and wide in a tour-de-force of 200 to 300 dates per year. It is back playing and recording. Recent releases include the albums "Rescue the Dog," "All Over the Place" and "Rockin' The Country." On Saturday, virtuoso musician Ariane Lydon returns for an 8 p.m. performance. Cover is $10.
Lydon's touch on 12- and sixstring guitar, keyboards, Celtic harp and bodhran come from a long apprenticeship in music across three continents.
